Had to find a last minute dog friendly hotel due to a relative being admitted to hospital on our Christmas break in Scotland and this place was a great find! Booking was a little long winded as it's via a call centre and the young lady was …
Cheapish room and very close to the motorway. Room was clean and perfectly acceptable. Bathroom clean. Taps didn't work particularly well (cold tap didn't turn off easily and hot tap was hard to turn on...) but usable. Unusually nice lake and grounds for a motorway service station. Breakfast options were limited to what was available in the road chef services (McDonald's, Costa or a little breakfast takeaway shop).
It was a shame the room was very poor as the location is very nice. Beds uncomfortable, floorboards knackered, heating thermostat open to reveal wiring, tv & wifi very poor signal, bathroom dated and in need of tlc as did the furnishings. Stayed at Gretna on way up, which was marginally better and probably more worthy of the price. As it was an overnight stop Im not going to rip it to pieces totally but Im afraid Premier Inn & Travelodge are worth that bit extra price next time.
This is our preferred overnight stop on our way to our annual holiday in Scotland. Stopped again on the way back this year from the Isle of Skye. Very affordable, dog-friendly and with a stunning lake view from many of the rooms. The rooms are clean, functional rather than luxurious (though at the price, there's no complaining), beds are comfy and it's far enough from the M74 to guarantee a quiet night's sleep. The highlight of our stay is breakfast pasties in the services!
This hotel is lovely, clean comfortable , especially having a room with a view onto the lake outside with a little balcony . Beautiful spot . The manager and staff I met were amazing so helpful and kind . I would recommend to everyone, …
Positives:
1). Great location - Behind the hotel Annandale water lake. Can get lake view rooms
2). Friendly and helpful staff
3). Reasonable prices
4). Pet/Dog friendly - Extra £10 for the pet
5). Free parking
6). Easy access - Located in Motorway services A74(M) so close proximity to Food and refreshments
7). Reasonable prices
8). Allow adequate time for cancellation if needed.
9). 24h Reception/Help desk
Negatives:
1). Days Inn website says that "Free Breakfast is Available". Actually no free breakfast or paid breakfast facilities. Meals need to get from adjacent Motorway services.
Awful.. shambles...tatty... dated.. uncomfortable and these are the polite words I was thinking.. we was given a room that was probably used for people in a wheelchair, we sort of had 2 single beds, but one was doubtful it was a bed, probably a sofa bed, and definitely not comfortable, there was a plastic type covering underneath the sheets..I spent most of the night itching ,terrible nights sleep. Floor creaked everytime one of us moved... tv and wifi signal very bad.. strange smell in corridor and room... linen smelt stale... The heating was operated via a broken dial( see photo).. the pull cord in bathroom was just left open ( see photo) wallpaper in corridor peeling..outside window frames needed care.. the whole look and feel of the place was totally uncared for which is a pity as its location is beautiful. It felt as though no one really cared about the place.. The room looked like it was stuck in the 80's.. The only saving grace was the lady on the reception desk being helpful.
I will not be returning here in future. Allow me to tell you why:
Let's start with the positives:
1. The bed was very comfortable.
2. Considering we were next to a motorway, the room was very quiet.
The negatives:
1. The room door stuck so I had to shoulder it open every time I entered.
2. Mould on the bathroom ceiling.
3. Stained shower curtain.
4. Very dark room as the result of inadequate lighting.
5. The whole room felt very tired, and we had possibly the most depressing artwork in all of Britain on the wall.
6. No TV signal on BBC or ITV channels.
7. There was a bit of a cannabis-like smell in the corridors, and a peculiar smell in the room too.
I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but I don't think it was good value for money at £104 per night.
